Delhi Police using facebook to connect to citizens reg. traffic information

Last week, I have learnt the possible usage of social media applications by govenment agencies. The social media eg. Twitter, facebook etc can be used effectively by govenment agencies to proactively informaing people with updated information. In some government department have started using it also eg. Delhi Police is using this to address the traffic problems http://www.insidefacebook.com/2010/05/21/police-in-delhi-india-use-facebook-page-to-address-traffic-problems/ . This application has got an overwheming response from public and become a medium of conveying traffic related issues to the goverment. The success of this initative lies in prope responses to citizens posting on the facebook site as well as regular traffic updates.

Law on cards for e-surveillance in India

Indian Governement is considering enacting a law similar to US law, Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), enacted in 2009 (http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics/nation/law-on-cards-for-e-surveillance/articleshow/7108656.cms ). With the growth of new communication media and possiblity of misuse of the same by anti-nationals, I think this law is the need of the hour.
